This summer, the Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Originally just 88 acres, the vineyard has grown to 400 acres. About 80 acres of the vineyard are planted with grape vines. They grow about 200 tons of grapes a year, producing 7,000 cases of wine. In addition to wine, the vineyard also produces ingredients for beer, which is brewed onsite by owner Paull Goodchild. The vineyard employs a half-dozen people full-time and as many as forty during their peak season.
The Pinot Gris at Westport is made from Pinot Gris grapes, and it has a golden tint and a floral aroma. It has a soft texture and a touch of herbality, but it’s also full-bodied and acidic.
